About Dagshai
As the Oldest cantonment area, Dagshai is a small scenic town of Himachal Pradesh. It is located on the Kalka - Shimla highway at the distance of 30 km from Kalka and 11 km from Solan. It has its existence at the average elevated height of 1734 meters above sea level.
The town came into limelight when Maharaja of Patiala handed over five villages to East India Company in 1847. Dagshai was among these five villages. This is small province that is famous for its stillness and picturesque sites.
History of Dagshai
Dagshai is an ancient place that is now an oldest cantonment of India. In past centuries, according to legends, this region came under Mughal Empire. They used to send criminals and their enemies to this place by engraving Daag-e-shai on their forehead. Hence, this place got its name as Dagshai in India. After that era, it also witnessed Anglo Gorkha war during the 18th century in India.
Once, this area came into attention because this place along with other four villages was given to British by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. The Irish soldier who done the mutiny in 1920 against British were incarcerated at Dagshai.
Geography and Climate of Dagshai
The exact location of Dagshai is 30.88o N 77.05oE on globe. Dagshai is situated on the hilly terrains of Himalayan Ranges in Himachal Pradesh. It is placed in middle of high souring mountains in the green vegetation of Solan district.
It climatic condition remains adequate throughout the calendar year. Its summer temperature ranges between 20 - 30 degree and winter barometer goes low up to 2 degree Celsius.

Dagshai is tranquil place with scenic location and historical monuments. It is famous for central jail which is converted into museum for showcasing chronology of Dagshai. Being the part of Cantonment, it is one of the cleanest and most pleasant places of tourism. It is comprised with lots of picnic spots which makes it favorite destination for one day itinerary.

Food restaurants and coffee shops are established on the highway itself. These roadside dhabas and restaurants serve all types of vegan and non vegan food. People coming in this part can get adequate taste of food which can be termed as up to the mark.
Local food along with Punjabi cuisines is quite famous in this part. Prices are comparatively higher as compared to restaurants in plains. Coffee and Tea shops are available on regular interval on this highway.
Transport in Dagshai
Dagshai is connected through rail and road transport. It has own small railway station on which toy train ply from Shimal to Kalka. This gives access to any part on this route as well as other cities of India through Kalka railway station. Government buses and private vehicles are also another source of transport in Dagshai. It is connected to all parts of state through its road map.
